●About:
Since few decades, Innovation has become a key to describe the positive side of what may be achieved by contemporary economies. As a concept, it has gained an equivalent status to “progress” in the 19th century or “growth” in the 1960s and 1970s. It is mainly understood as related to technological change and as the major source of development and well-being.
The purpose of this open forum is to discuss different approaches to this concept by critically assessing the relations between science, technology, innovation and society. The innovation is not limited to its technological dimension. In reality, the majority of so-called technological innovations are socio-technical innovation, requiring huge resources for financing activities, adapting regulations, designing adequate policy frames, and shaping new uses and new users, while having the appropriate interaction with society.
It illustrates how promises of innovative futures shape current behaviors when we are collectively convinced that this is essential element in order to solve complex social issues.
*This forum is held as one of the events for “Japan-France Innovation Year”.
●Keynote Speakers:
Yoichiro MURAKAMI (Professor Emeritus, The University of Tokyo and International Christian University)
Yuko HARAYAMA (Executive Member, Council for Science, Technology and Innovation Cabinet Office, Japan)
Leonidas KARAPIPERIS (Minister-Counsellor, Head of Science and Technology Section, Delegation of the European Union to Japan)
●Moderator:
Yuko FUJIGAKI (Vice-dean, Professor, The University of Tokyo)
*Also we will welcome Japanese and European scientists and stakeholders, and have open discussion.
